Douglas Bostock wirkt seit Beginn der Konzertsaison 2019/20 als Künstlerischer Leiter und Chefdirigent des Südwestdeutschen Kammerorchesters Pforzheim. Zuvor war er von 2001 bis 2019 Chefdirigent und ist nun Ehrendirigent des Schweizer Sinfonieorchesters Argovia Philharmonic, das er mit frischen Konzepten und innovativen Formaten künstlerisch erfolgreich in der Orchesterlandschaft positioniert hat. Weitere Stationen seiner Laufbahn waren u. a. die Karlsbader Symphoniker, die Tschechische Kammerphilharmonie, die Münchner Symphoniker und das Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra. Sein breites Repertoire umfasst Werke aus allen Epochen einschließlich einer Vielzahl selten aufgeführter Werke, zeitgenössische Musik und Opern. Sein Temperament, sein unverkennbarer Stil und sein Kommunikationstalent führten ihn als Gast zu bedeutenden Orchestern in Europa, Amerika und Asien, darunter die Orchester der BBC, das London Philharmonic Orchestra, das Radio-Symphonie-Orchester Prag, das National Orchestra Washington, das Mexikanische Staatsorchester und das New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra.
Beinahe 100 CD-Aufnahmen dokumentieren das künstlerische Profil und das vielseitige Repertoire von Douglas Bostock. Als Gastprofessor, u.a. in Tokyo, widmet er sich auch der Arbeit mit jungen Musikern und leitet Kurse und Meisterklassen für Dirigenten. Mit dem Südwestdeutschen Kammerorchester Pforzheim hatte er seit 2013 bereits mehrfach als Gastdirigent zusammengearbeitet und prägt und entwickelt nun als Künstlerischer Leiter Klang, Stilistik und Programmatik dieses ebenso traditionsreichen wie innovativen Ensembles weiter.
3. Internationaler Meisterkurs Dirigieren - 24.-28. Oktober 2023
The Conducting Masterclass is designed for advanced students of conducting and for young conductors who have concluded their professional training, wishing to extend their knowledge and experience in conducting and interpretation of the chamber orchestra repertoire under the expert guidance Maestro Douglas Bostock.
The British conductor Douglas Bostock, Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra since 2019 and Honorary Conductor of the Argovia Philharmonic in Switzerland, enjoys an outstanding reputation as a conducting teacher. He has been Guest Professor in the conducting and opera departments at Tokyo University of the Arts, and his conducting masterclasses in many countries are widely acclaimed. www.douglasbostock.net
Schedule
• 24 October Two 3-hour sessions with 2 pianos à 4 hands.
• 25 October Two 3-hour sessions with 2 pianos à 4 hands.
• 26 October Two 3-hour sessions with orchestra.
• 27 October Two 3-hour sessions with orchestra.
• 28 October 3-hour session with orchestra (quasi dress rehearsal) + final concert
(conducted by the active participants) + presentation of diplomas.
In addition, class meetings with Maestro Bostock will be held daily.
General
The course language is English.
Active participation is limited to 10 conductors. Each conductor receives a minimum of 2 hours podium time + dress rehearsal and participation in the final concert.
The number of auditors is unlimited, but attendance must be registered in advance.

• CV including general musical background, education, and conducting experience.
• Date of birth and nationality.
• Main repertoire (studied and conducted).
• Recent video(s), not requiring download (YouTube link or similar) of the applicant conducting (rehearsal or concert), frontal view, 5-15 minutes duration.
Deadline for applications: 3 September 2023
The list of applicants selected for active participation will be announced on 7 September.
Fees
• Active participants: € 700 payable before the beginning of the Masterclass
The course fee includes lunch 24.-28.10.
• Auditors: € 50 per day (two sessions) or € 250 complete Masterclass (five days)
The Southwest German Chamber Orchestra will recommend a range of suitable accommodation in Pforzheim.
